Hi Nick,

I am a big fan of Beethoven and Mozart, but I donno why I tend to get bored after listening to their composition for a long time,. BTW I appreciate your dedication to Pure Classical music. But my suggestion would be to listen to other genres of music also. They are as good as Classical. Please try it out. :)

You might also want to consider the younger audiences. They might not necessary like the light and joyous piece, when they are used to heavy metal and all that. Fortunately, there are also classical music brutal enough to fix that problem as well.

Hi Norine,

thank you for your comment! I agree, knowing a bit of background information may also help to enjoy the piece. I've listed this in the following post, dealing with how to get more from classical music (for the advanced listener; but I agree, it may also be useful for newbies).

By the way, Beethoven was actually deaf when he composed his 9th symphony. Amazing.

Thank you for pointing to the spelling mistake, I've just corrected it.

Hello Nick,

My suggestion for the newby is not only offer some basic classical music but the story behind the music....i.e.... Beethoven was blind when he composed ____________________________________________! Haydn's "Surprise Symphony" would keep the newby from falling asleep since this symphony has a real surprise which actually is rather humorous. ha ha!

Spelling of Barock is actually Baroque!

Hi VS,

thank you for your comment. Yes, I try to quantify things if possible, but only to get from an "esoteric" or "philosophical" level to a more scientific one. Unfortunately I not always succeed...

I agree the efforts to attain something can add substantially to the pleasure it gives. This however already requires some motivation (which complete newbies often don't have) - for the ones who do, the ideas put forward in the following post may be worth looking at.

Thanks again for the comment,

Nick

Once again I admire the efforts you would have put in to research and write on this topic. The list you provide is very informative. I would suggest that you put in some personal recommendations too for each section.

I would disagree slightly with your chart representation. Sometimes the efforts to attain something in particular may add to the pleasure it gives. For example checking out with your friends if they have a CD, may help you to discover something interesting about the music piece or even your friend. I think you put it there because you have a knack for trying to quantify things. :o)
